What is the Color Run? The Color Run is a fun, untimed school-wide event where students jog or walk a course while being sprinkled with colorful powder. The focus is on participation, school spirit, and fun - not speed or competition.
Who can participate? All Jackson Elementary students in every grade & the multi-abilities class will have a designated time to participate during the school day. See the "Schedule of Events" on the website.
Is there a cost to participate? No! The Color Run is completely free for all students, thanks to the generous donations raised throughout the school year. No fundraising or donations are required.
What is the color made of? Is it safe? Per the manufacturer, the color powder is made from a blend of food grade cornstarch, FD&C and D&C dyes (food, drug, and cosmetic dyes) and baking soda. The powder is 100% gluten free and does not contain dairy, nuts, wheat, soy or other common allergens.
What should my child wear? Students are encouraged to wear a white t-shirt, their grade level's accent color (see below), and closed toe shoes.
What is my child's grade level color and what should they wear? Each grade is assigned a "color" to build grade level spirit and add to the color run fun! Recommendations on color accents include: hats, hair accessories, tutus, shorts, socks, or any other creative ideas you have. Please keep in mind we want all students to be safe, so we ask that no props be sent to school.
TK - Pink
Kinder - Red
1st Grade - Orange
2nd Grade - Yellow
3rd Grade - Green
4th Grade - Blue
5th Grade - Purple (the ultimate Jaggy recognition for their last year at Jackson!)
Will the color stain clothing or shoes? The color usually washes out, but staining is possible. Please send students in clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting colorful.
Do students have to run? No, students may walk, jog, dance, or move at their own pace. The goal is fun and participation.
I am worried my child will not want color on them, what should I do? We completely understand. In order to help students understand this event, we plan to host a school wide assembly to explain the fun that's to come. If your child still seems apprehensive, there will be an area on the inside of the track where students can run and will get minimal to no color on them.
Will there be music? Yes! A DJ will be onsite to keep the energy high and make it a party atmosphere.
Can parents attend the event and help get color on the students? Yes! All parents/ guardians are encouraged to attend, but must sign in at the office before coming to the field. We will have packets of color available for sale on a first come first serve basis so you can join in on the fun of getting your child "extra" colorful! Please see the "Purchase Color Packets" section of the website to take advantage of the pre-sale.
What if I do not want my child to participate? We want every student to feel comfortable and will have an alternative coloring station for students who do not wish to participate with coloring activities. Please notify your student's teacher if they, or you, do not want them to participate.
Who can I contact with questions? Please reach out to the school or PTO via VP@jacksonedhpto.org
